New Year's Eve 2023

New Year’s Eve 2023 bouldering in Rumbling Bald, NC. What a great day!! At the start I didn’t know what to expect, my previous plans to climb trad in King, NC with my friends Vladi and Anna fell through. So, I decided to take the trek back to Rumbling Bald for a second visit and some bouldering. Hoping I would run into a friendly group of boulderers that I could tag along with. I was in luck!

Last time I went, which was also my first visit I went directly to the Westside boulder split of the trail on the left. This time I took the trail straight (slight right) and first boulder in sight had a group that I managed to boulder with for the remainder for the day. Of the group were Lea, Kayla, Alex, Lou, Dan and some others that I did not catch there names. They were local coming from the Charleston area of NC and were happy to show me the area more thoroughly.

Thankfully I was able to complete some unfinsihed business, Captain Aslab (v2) and The Scoop (v5) both of which shut me down from not knowing the beta and probably just not having a strong day. Well today was a great day felt strong and even ticked off Kung-fu Grip (v5) which was recommended to me last visit but never made my way to it.

Last climb I did was a v3 low-ball but had interesting movement that Dan described as being similar to an HP 40 style boulder. Apologies in advance I don’t feel like looking up the name but can just say it’s a little past Classic Overhang (v3).

Well it’s been a great last day of 2023 to wrap up the year. Here’s to looking forward to an adventurous and exciting 2024 with plans for more ultra-running, surfing and rock climbing. It’s getting late and will likely throw in a 3 mile a nice nap lol to really wrap up 2023, Happy New Year!!!
